A visit to a traditional family-run monument maker reveals huge changes in how gravestones are produced. Shanganagh Marble and Stone Centre are one of the few businesses left still practising the craft of hand-carving. Fran and Colin O’Neill (pictured) share how they can cope with requests for ‘teddy-bear’ monuments to producing gravestones in Chinese for a new multi-cultural Ireland. Colin is a third-generation stonemason.
